Uma escola, mais de uma língua: contexto sociolinguístico de Escolas Municipais de Santarém

Abstract

This work, which stems from a larger project called Diagnóstico Sociolinguístico de Escolas Públicas do Oeste Paraense em Contexto Plurilíngue, an action initiated within the scope of the Grupo de Estudos Linguísticos do Oeste do Pará (Gelopa), aims to investigate the sociolinguistic reality of schools in the municipality. Santarém, specifically the schools: Rotary and Helena Lisboa de Matos. As methodological procedures, the following steps were taken: reading the bibliography of the area, contacting and requesting authorization from the public bodies responsible for the educational institutions to carry out the research, visiting the schools object of the research, therefore, application of questionnaires to managers , non-maternal Portuguese-speaking teachers and students, then analysis of the data collected using the reference read during the investigation as a basis. As a result, it was found that in the Rotary school there are 6 students who do not speak Portuguese by mother and in the Helena Lisboa de Matos school there is 1 student. In addition, it was found that teachers and managers of the aforementioned schools have not received any specific training to deal with the context of sociolinguistic diversity in the classroom. Finally, it is considered that findings such as these are of paramount importance for us to understand the linguistic reality of our region, so we can think of educational policies in line with the sociolinguistic context of schools in the municipality, in order to support managers and teachers. and with the intention of providing the best possible educational environment for students, regardless of what languages they speak.
