Among the different types of pollution identified in the environment, atmospheric pollution has
been one of the main topics of interest in the scientific community, given its implication in the
quality of human health, ecosystems and built goods. In this context, environmental legislation
has the objective of directing rules and norms for the occupation and appropriation of natural
resources, and assumes an important role for the preservation of the environment and
environmental quality, together with the effective inspection and application of these. The study
of state environmental legislation is relevant, as it explains the individual role of states in the
context of environmental preservation. The comparison between the legislations makes it
possible to identify the limitations of air quality standards, the analysis of the aspects that must
be developed and the awareness of human responsibility in the deterioration of air quality. The
present work makes a comparison of the environmental legislation of the states of the northern
region, namely: Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins, with the
objective of analyzing the legislation of air quality in the states of the northern region. Data
were collected through bibliographic research, on websites of agencies and secretariats of each
state. Data were collected from legislation, making a comparative analysis, observing the
similarities and differences of each legislation. Through this comparison, it was noticed that the
northern states still have to advance in environmental planning on air quality, since only Acre
monitors the state. Other states have a small number of laws that order, implement and manage
the environmental issue of air quality within the aforementioned states.
