Wood is a heterogeneous material that presents a variety of uses, where there are a large number of different species. So that the knowledge of its technological properties are important to define its correct and end use. Cedrorana (Cedrelinga catenaeformis) is a leguminous, which occurs in Brazil more frequently in the states of Amazonia, Acre and Pará, is a possible alternative to several other species. The objective of this study was to determine the physical and mechanical properties of Cedrorana in its resistance class, to evaluate the simplified characterization proposed by norm NBR 7190, and the relation of the apparent density (12%) with its mechanical properties. Cedrorana was classified as normal wood of medium density and retratibility. Features C20 resistance class characteristics. In the relationship between apparent density and mechanical properties were directly proportional and significant only with the shear property and in the parallel compression strength the fibers. The simplified characterization of the wood efforts proposed by the NBR7190 standard, were not representative for Cedrelinga catenaeformis. Cedrorana presented great potential to replace other species.
