The search for energy sources due to crises in the Brazilian electric sector
boosted the development, research and use of Moto-Generator Groups (GMGs), as a
source of autonomous and independent electricity. Consolidated and constantly
evolving companies use electricity as a source of energy for thousands of electrical
equipment, carrying out various activities, strengthening their economic and social
structure. In this context, GMGs play an extremely important role, since their use allows
the electromechanical conversion, generating voltage at their terminals, producing
electric energy. Environments where the interruption of electric power would cause lifethreatening or economic losses, there is a greater use of GMGs. The understanding of
the Laws governing its operation, together with other knowledge, has provided many
technological innovations in the field of electric motors and generators over time and
has provided the construction of more sophisticated devices and equipment. These
equipment are subjected to internal and external stresses, in which they are
susceptible to failures. These faults should be remedied as they may cause the
permanent destruction of these machines. Therefore, the study and implementation of
methods capable of diagnosing failures in the GMGs monitoring and control process
is of extreme importance. This work applied the Fault Tree Analysis technique, relating
causes and effects of the main faults that occur in the operation of GMGs, both of
mechanical and electrical order, in order to locate and solve such faults in a practical
and fast way.
