Air pollution is one of the most serious and widely discussed environmental problems in the
modern world. It is a mixture of harmful particles, gases and vapors that pollute the atmosphere
and cause disastrous effects on human health and the environment. Climate change affects the
lives of all inhabitants of the globe and even those who live in the forest are not exempt from
this influence. Therefore, this study aims to monitor air quality through the concentrations of
fine particulate matter (PM2,5), detected in a low-cost sensor in the municipality of Santarém
(PA). For this work, 5 collection points were selected with data from the month of November
2022.The results show that the Ramal dos Coelhos community had a value of 1 ,000 (μg/m³) on
the 26th and 27th days - the highest value recorded among the 5 discussed points, followed by
Vila de Alter do Chão and Maracanã neighborhood, which registered an approximate value of
650 (μg/m³) on the 1 th, 2th, and 11 th days of november, respectively. In the Caranazal
neighborhood, the highest value was approximately 350 (μg/m³) on the 6th day, and finally, the
São Pedro community had a value of 250 (μg/m³) on the 19th. Furthermore, the location with
the highest occurrence of the analyzed particulate matter was the Maracanã neighborhood. In
conclusion, the importance of air quality monitoring in the region is emphasized, considering
that significant variations in PM2,5 levels were observed among different locations based on one
month of information. There are also promising prospects for the development of low-cost
commercial sensors, given the encouraging results obtained.
