Cadeia da reciclagem de resíduos sólidos da cidade de Santarém: desafios e oportunidades
Resumo
The National Solid Waste Policy established guidelines for the development of joint activities to improve solid waste management, however the absence of waste management initiatives is a reality in several Brazilian municipalities. In this sense, we sought to understand the recycling chain in the municipality of Santarém-Pará. Among the challenges listed by the interviewees, the lack of selective collection and, consequently, low recycling rate, unsatisfactory environmental education, in addition to the devaluation in the price of recyclable materials and the work carried out by collectors stands out. Regarding opportunities, the need for investment in recycling industries in the municipality of Santarém stands out, to provide job creation, as well as adequate structuring for cooperatives to carry out their work. Furthermore, the main places for voluntary purchase/delivery of recyclable materials and their respective authors were diagnosed, totaling 21 identified, most of them intermediaries, who work in the purchase and sale of recyclable materials and 33 Voluntary Delivery Points for plastic and metal implemented by Santarém City Hall. Thus, it is highlighted how much the municipality needs to advance in waste management to improve and develop the recycling chain, contributing to society, the environment and fulfilling the obligations established by Law 12,305/2010 which governs the National Solid Waste Policy
