The ceramic industries in Santarém use, in their majority, sawdust as a source of energy in the process of burning the bricks, where the furnaces in question reach temperatures higher than 900º C. However, sawing often finds itself with high humidity and impurities, reducing its energy efficiency and increasing the amount of residue after burning, raising costs. In this way, the objective was to characterize this scenario by means of in loco collections of sawdust samples for the proper energy analyzes, as well as the quantification of the material used. Three potteries were selected for the study, and all use the same volume of sawdust to produce one million bricks. It was found that the way of storage of the residues influences more in the moisture content than the period of the year and that the production of bricks in Santarém generates a lot of waste.
