Literature in the educational environment is a possibility that transmits experiences,
knowledge, cultures, and new identities, providing the student with different vocabularies
and grammatical structures that provide the development of orality, writing and
reflections about the world, real or present in books. In this way, this study tried to analyze
and reflect the use of literature in English language classes in a language school in
Santarem-PA. The study used the work of Raquel Jaramillo Palacio, “Wonder”, first
published in 2012, in English classes, adding language teaching and literature. The
information was collected from questionnaires regarding the linguistic and literary
preferences of the students, oral and written activities, and finally a reflective
questionnaire about the students' experience with the classes. The results show that
literature can be used in English classes as a way of motivating students to read, write and
reflect on the social and school environment where they are inserted, contributing to the
expansion of their curiosities and interests.
