Tourism in contact with nature is one of the main economic activities of the traditional
populations residing in the Tapajós National Forest. However, this experience of visiting the
UC ends up being hampered by the amount of waste found by tourists in communities and on
beaches. This work sought to characterize the composition of solid waste, analysis of the total
production and its fractions (recyclable, organic and tailings) of waste produced in the
communities of São Domingos, Maguari and Jamaraquá, in order to identify the best
destination. The focus of the research corresponded to solid waste generated by families, inns
and community restaurants and waste thrown on beaches and public sidewalks (urban waste).
For characterization and measurement of production, the gravimetry technique was used, data
were collected in November and December 2021, high season, and in April and June 2022, low
season. For the collection of waste produced in the communities, 6 points were selected in each
one, and for waste from beaches and public walkways, an area oftwo kilometers was delimited.
The result showed that there was no significant difference in the amount of waste produced by
communities with higher flows. Plastic is the material found in greater quantity in the
collections (189 kg), followed by organic (111,90 kg), paper (73.56 kg) and glass (72.28 kg),
plastic is the most significant portion, but statistically equals the generation of organics. As for
the variation in the amount of waste produced in the low and high season, there was a significant
difference.
