This research problematized the institutional evaluation of the Federal University of Western Para, within Sinaes. The overall objective was to analyze the implementation and the initial process of institutional evaluation in the period from 2012 to 2014. It is a study guided by the national policy of evaluation of universitary education, based on a qualitative approach, anchored in bibliographical research, Documentary and empirical. In order to support the analysis, we supporting in authors who understand evaluation in their emancipatory conception, such as Dias Sobrinho, Rothen, Ristoff and Queiroz, among others. Analyzing the current national policy for the evaluation of universitary education required the knowledge of the legal apparatus pertinent to Sinaes in order to understand the materialization of the System in the study's locus. The analysis of the collected data was made from categories that emerged from the research itself, and are described in the development of the dissertation. Among the conclusions allowed by the study, we emphasize that Ufopa conceives evaluation as an instrument to be associated with planning and management for the promotion of institutional development, but has not yet been able to materialize as an institutional culture. The study also points out the need for the Institution to advance in the promotion of evaluation in its formative perspective, overcoming the merely regulatory perspective that has been imposed by the System on universitary education institutions in general. Thus, it will become possible that the institutional evaluation is imbricated to the planning and management, with self-referenced processes originating from the permanent reflection of Ufopa's daily life.
