This research aims to measure the quality of basic education, comparing the performance of students from public and private schools in Brazilian capitals in relation to the city of Santarém, in the National High School Exam in the area of Nature Sciences in 2019. Therefore, a documentary research was carried out on the Qedu platform to access the statistical data with the results of the means of the ENEM (National High School Exam), public and private schools in all Brazilian cities. In order to systematize the data, tables were created to apply the statistical accuracy test. The organization of the tables followed the order: schools, number of schools, average and standard deviation of the number of participants and the evaluation in Nature Sciences. After the application of the statistical test, it was noticed that in general the basic education of the capitals has an advantage over that of Santarém, but this difference is not so high, even taking into account issues such as income distribution, social inequality and investments. When we observe the data presented in this research, it is noted that basic education in general is deficient and that there is a need for evolution in relation to our educational model, tied to investments and appreciation of the teacher's career, because social, economic and cultural development, to happen in an integrated and homogeneous way, requires that education be the basis for these events.
