The present work aims to present the discussion that falls on the Kamayurá “life interdicts”,
which are commonly known as representations of the so-called “indigenous infanticide”, and
the impacts that the bill of the chamber (PLC) 119/2015 may cause in traditional practices. It is
a research consolidated by the quantitative survey of votes of agreement or not with the
summary of the referred bill, through access to the website of the Federal Senate, media
ethnography and the bibliographical and documental review of theses, dissertations, articles in
magazines, periodicals, legislation, books and reports related to the rights of indigenous peoples
and Kamayurá perspectivism on “life interdicts”. Given the conflict between the right to cultural
diversity and the right to life, the approval of PLC 119/2015, without prior consultation, points
to a forced state intervention in internal cultural issues. Intercultural dialogue and listening to
indigenous voices, through prior consultation, are effective alternatives for reducing cases of
“life bans” among the Kamayurá. The suppression of the rights of ethnic minorities, through
legislative impositions, in addition to characterizing acts of institutional violence, violates
human dignity, compromising the ability to recognize and identify communities whose
dissemination of collective memory is a prerequisite for the perpetuation of their societies.
