Práticas de conservação de manivassementes na comunidade quilombola Murumuru, Santarém-Pa
Resumo
This paper aims to address the agrobiodiversity conservation techniques practiced in
traditional communities. The research was conducted in the community of Quilombo de
Murumuru Remnants located in the municipality of Santarém-PA, through direct
observation and interviews with eight farmers. Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is one
of the main species cultivated in the Amazon and is basically the food of the traditional
people. In the quilombo two practices of conservation of seed cranes are used the low and
the muffled. The decollete consists in leaving part of the field to compose the next one
and its purpose is the production of manioc and cassava, while the stifled consists in
keeping the seed cranes out of the production area by drowning them with leaves or not
under the forest. Given the scenario of major changes in agricultural systems, quilombolas
use these two practices as conservation strategies for their agrobiodiversity to maintain
the diversity of their agricultural systems, the family economy and, especially, traditional
quilombola knowledge.
