Amazônia " A contrapelo": um diálogo entre a teoria da história de Walter Benjamin e o romance Chove nos Campos de Cachoeira de Dalcídio Jurandir
Resumen
The present study establishes a dialogue between the theory of History of the philosopher Walter
Benjamin and the first novel by the paraense writer Dalcídio Jurandir, Chove nos Campos de
Cachoeira. We start from the understanding of the German author’s theory of history as a theory
of culture, inserted in his project of criticism of industrial modernity. Then,, we promote a
hermeneutic exercise in two of his main works on history, Thesis on the concept of history (1940)
and the notebook N of the Passages. Seeking to highlight his notes on culture as central to his
theory of History. Next, we analyze Dalcídio Jurandir’s novel based on the previous analyzes,
seeking to demonstrate that the novel works as an image, in the Benjaminian sense, brushing
history against the grain. This dual relationship, while enhancing Benjamin’s notes on culture,
and his theory of history, highlights the importance of the work of one of the most important
writers in the Amazon region.
