The reuse of poultry litter has been the most relevant factor to minimize costs, as well as to
correlate management with poultry production factors. The research aims to assess the
incidence of related carcass convictions according to the reuse of poultry litter. The research
was carried out in a broiler farm in the state of Pará, licensed by the Federal Inspection Service
(SIF), from April to October 2020. The bed used during production is rice straw and shavings.
The study period consisted of 4 production cycles, corresponding to the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th
bed reuse cycles. Regarding the data on carcass condemnation, the following variables were
evaluated: number of birds slaughtered; causes of pathological and non-pathological
condemnation (total and partial), correlating the order of these causes to the management of
bed reuse. All analyzes were performed using the statistical package R, with the aid of Excel
spreadsheets. For all tests performed, the minimum significance level of 5% was considered.
The results obtained in relation to the reuse of the litter with the carcass condemnations were
as follows: 320,490 slaughtered birds; 32408 for partial convictions of carcasses (10.11%) and
525 losses for total convictions, corresponding to 1.61%. The causes of conviction are: 30% for
pathological causes and 70% for non-pathological causes. The biggest non-pathological
convictions were: contusion, contamination. The major pathological cause was: arthritis and
dermatosis. The results found allow us to conclude that the reuse of the bed may be related to
carcass convictions.
