Solidarity economy can be defined as the set of activities that seek economic democratization
through collective forms of work organization, in contrast to the employer-employee
relationship, characteristic of the current economic form, and these initiatives are identified as
more definitive solutions to the lack of work and income. However, with its rapid organization,
especially between 2003 and 2018, it was possible to follow the maturing of its conception in
recognition as a development strategy and in the relationship with the territorial perspective of
development on sustainable bases. The main objective of this research is to analyze the
relationship between the solidarity economy and the economic development of the municipality
of Santarém/PA, since the area of studies on this topic is considered lacking. We used the
qualitative approach to understand the solidarity economy and its relationship with the
economic development of the city under study and the quantitative approach to characterize
solidarity economic enterprises from the descriptive analysis of secondary data resulting from
the second national mapping of solidarity economy made available by Sies on your website.
We found that the absence of a government policy causes a program, of great importance to
local actors, to be discontinued due to the turnover of municipal management, which is one of
the difficulties encountered by the solidarity economy for its strengthening, not only the local
level, but also at the federal level. And its contribution to the economic development of the
municipality consists in strengthening the enterprises through their economic gains and in the
social integration of their actors from the social inclusion provided by the enterprises.
