Resumo
Considering that in geography there are few studies reacting to environmental injustice focused
on the Amazonian context, it has become extremely important to research the theme related to
the case of environmental injustice generated by the operation of the red ceramic industry in
the city of Santarém. Thus, the general objective of this work is to understand how the
operationalization of the red ceramic industry can be configured as a case of environmental
injustice in the city of Santarém and specifically: to analyze the origin of the fight against
environmental injustice in the world, to identify how the environmental licensing process is
carried out aimed at the red ceramic industry and characterizes the environmental impacts
arising from the activities carried out by this industry in the study area. Research is then carried
out with a qualitative approach, using bibliographic and documentary methodological
procedures. In view of this, it was found that the fight for environmental justice in Brazil
incorporated a new perspective in the face of the country's numerous social inequalities, as well
as considering the importance of the various international documents and treaties for
environmental protection and the guarantee of human rights. Being addressed, although the
environmental licensing process aimed at the red ceramic industry is fundamental, given its
high polluting and degrading potential, especially in Santarém, which has 30 companies in the
sector, but only 11 are duly licensed by the Municipal Secretariat of Environment (SEMMA).
It was also evident that among the impacts most reported by residents are the issue of smoke
and soot from the chimneys of this ceramic, as well as the emission of noise and the large
circulation of cars in the area, which affects the health and well-being of these people. in this
area, which imposes the observation that environmental injustices are the result of the action of
economic power on socially vulnerable groups, thus requiring a political disposition in the fight
against this type of injustice so that there is not only the identification of it, but also a means of
transformation, not only for those affected, but also for society in general.
Resumo
A geografia tem-se poucos estudos relacionados a injustiça ambiental voltado ao contexto
amazônico, tornou-se de suma importância pesquisar-se sobre a temática ao caso de injustiça
ambiental, gerado pela operação da indústria de cerâmica vermelha na cidade de Santarém.
Dessa forma, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo geral, compreender como a
operacionalização da indústria de cerâmica vermelha pode se configurar como um caso de
injustiça ambiental na cidade de Santarém e especificamente: analisar a origem da luta conta a
injustiça ambiental no mundo, identificar como ocorre o processo de licenciamento ambiental
voltado para a indústria de cerâmica vermelha e caracterizar os impactos ambientais, oriundos
das atividades desenvolvidas por essa indústria na área de estudo. Realiza-se, então, uma
pesquisa com uma abordagem qualitativa, com procedimentos metodológicos bibliográfico e
documental. Diante disso, constatou-se que a luta pela justiça ambiental no Brasil incorporou
uma nova perspectiva diante das inúmeras desigualdades sociais do país, assim como considerase a importância dos diversos documentos e tratados internacionais para a tutela ambiental e a
garantia dos direitos humanos. Sendo abordado, ainda que o processo de licenciamento
ambiental voltado a indústria de cerâmica vermelha é fundamental, haja vista o seu alto
potencial poluidor degradador, sobretudo em Santarém, que tem trinta (30) empresas do setor,
porém apenas onze (11) se encontram devidamente licenciadas pela Secretaria Municipal de
Meio ambiente (SEMMA). Evidenciou-se ainda que entre os impactos mais relatados pelos
moradores estão a questão da fumaça e fuligens das chaminés dessa cerâmica, assim como a
emissão de ruídos e a grande circulação de automóveis pelo local, o que afeta a saúde e o bem
estar dessas pessoas nessa área, o que impõe a constatação, que as injustiças ambientais são
fruto da ação poder econômico sobre os grupos vulnerabilizados socialmente, sendo necessário
assim uma disposição política na luta contra esse tipo de injustiça para que haja não só a
identificação da mesma mais sobretudo como um meio de transformação, não só para as pessoas
afetadas, mas também para a sociedade em geral.
