Resumo
This case study investigates which representations of the Amazon are being presented in basic
education in Santarém-PA. The research was developed in a municipal elementary school
located in the central area of the city. The methodology of this investigation was carried out
through documentary sources, which are the didactic materials and course plan of the
Amazonian Studies discipline, in addition to an interview with the teacher who teaches this
curricular component. The curricular component emerged at the end of the 20th century; however, narratives of
absence and/or lack of Amazonian studies content are constant, as well as the notable
connection of this fact with the lack of regional and local historical awareness among many
students and teachers contacted.
This study found in the pages of the didactic materials regional and local content that supports
a history teaching capable of contributing to the construction of critical and reflective historical
awareness, connected from the local to the global.This case study investigates which

Resumo
Este estudo de caso investiga qual ou quais representações da Amazônia estão sendo
apresentadas na educação básica em Santarém-PA. O trabalho de pesquisa foi desenvolvido em
uma escola municipal de ensino fundamental, localizada na área central da cidade. A
metodologia desta investigação se deu por meio de fontes documentais, que são os materiais
didáticos e plano de curso da disciplina Estudos Amazônicos, além de entrevista com a docente
que ministra esse componente curricular. O componente curricular emergiu no final do século
XX, porém, narrativas de ausência e/ou carência de conteúdos de estudos amazônicos são
constantes, bem como é notável a ligação deste fato com a falta de consciência histórica regional
e local, em boa dos alunos e professores contactados. Este trabalho encontrou nas páginas dos
materiais didáticos conteúdos regionais e locais, que dão suporte para um ensino de história
capaz de contribuir para a construção da consciência histórica crítica e reflexiva, conectada
desde o local até o global.
