“Dinheiro de Santo, dinheiro de gente”. Usos e sentidos sociais do dinheiro no contexto afro-religioso

Abstract

This monograph directed its interest to understand the social meanings that the money can acquire in the universe of relations established in shop of afro-religious articles and a terrier of candomblé in Santarém, for the meanings attributed to it in those spaces. Starting from ethnographic facts obtained by fieldwork I observed, the different places by the money in the shop and in the terrier and the senses reserved to it in each one of those spaces. When it is deposited to the feet of an image that is found in the shop, in real size, deed of plaster, that represents an entity as the Cabocla Mariana, the money becomes-itself object of connection between the faithful one and the entity, acquiring ceremonial meaning. In that case, it is not taken for the checkout of the shop just like that received from the purchases carried out by the clients. What awards that difference? How analyze when the object is in it space of routine use, as the shop, but nevertheless presents others meanings there? Which relations and trials are involved when an object is ressignificated by the people in a determined context? The money finds- itself also present in ceremonial situations accompanied in a terrier of candomblé, where the universe of hurt attributed to it is expanded still more. What hurt are those? How to reflect questions that involve gift and reciprocity in a situation of change with a divinity? Those are some questionings about which this work bent over their analysis. I tried to reflect aspects related to the exchange, trials of reclassification and reciprocity, in that range of relations experienced in that afro-religious context, taking like base the reflections of the anthropology to the symbolic and economic practices.
