This work sought to answer, from a qualitative interpretative research study, ethnographic and applied nature, the following questioning: What are the prospects, the models and the development possibilities of the Portuguese language teaching based on didactic sequence, with reference to the opinion article? In other words: What contributions the teaching model of the Portuguese Language Olympics can bring to the Portuguese language teaching? The overall objective was to investigate as proposed and how it performs under the Portuguese Language Olympics, the teaching of genre opinion article through action research in the High School São José in the city of Óbidos-Pará. The methodology used was observation and focal groups. In the working path, I approached the Portuguese teaching in various perspectives: traditional, from texts, from the genre as articulator element and using the methodology of the Portuguese Language Olympics that uses the didactic sequence for the gender education. The intention was to discuss the perspectives that contribute to improving the linguistic performance of students, helping to read and write according to the situation, as this is the biggest challenge of the Portuguese-speaking teachers. The result of the work points to: a teaching positive Portuguese language through didactic proposal sequence by the PLO for teaching a genre; the didactic sequence is revealed as a powerful tool for the development of critical and argument on the student as well as for the development of reading and writing texts; more trained teachers - who had the opportunity to meet and implement a promising Portuguese language teaching methodology - and students who have developed more experience in reading and text production, especially in the genre opinion article.
