Resumo
This research, conducted within the Graduate Program in Letters at the Federal University of
Western Pará, falls within the field of Linguistics and the subfields of Textual Linguistics, while
also being linked to the theme of referential and enunciative operations in narratives from the
Amazon region of Pará. Based on this, the object of analysis is the phenomenon of deixis in the
Amazonian cordel “O Chapéu do Boto” (2007 edition) by the Paraense cordelista Antônio Juraci
Siqueira. The central research question guiding this investigation is: How do deictic elements
in the cordel O Chapéu do Boto contribute to referentiation and to the enunciative anchoring
of the narrator, the reader, space, and time in the narrative? As a justification, the study
aims to deepen reflections on Pará’s regional identity by filling gaps regarding deictic operations
in Siqueira’s work. Additionally, it analyzes specific linguistic processes in the Amazon,
such as enunciative anchoring via deixis, which situates the reader within the narrative universe
and revives collective memory. The general objective of this research is to analyze the role of
deictic elements in referentiation in the cordel O Chapéu do Boto, investigating how deictic
markers contribute to the construction of discourse objects and to the enunciative anchoring
that articulates the narrator, the reader, space, and time in the narrative. The specific objectives
are: 1. To observe the thematic and structural aspects of the cordel genre in the analyzed narrative;
2. To identify the discourse objects that are established and resumed in O Chapéu do Boto;
3. To specify the types of referents in deixis in the cordel under analysis; 4. To analyze the role
of deictic markers in “ostension” and “subjectivity”, such as referentiation, anchoring of the
narrator, reader, space, and time, as well as other identified aspects. Regarding methods and
techniques, the research follows a qualitative-quantitative and interpretative approach, employing
descriptive and bibliographical methods. Data collection involved Systematic Literature
Review techniques and Bardin’s (2011) content analysis, focusing on referential operations
present in the text “O Chapéu do Boto”. Among the findings, the study reveals that: 1. Regarding
the structure of the cordel, its alternation between setilhas and sextilhas, along with rhyming
patterns (blank, assonant, and consonant), combined with Waldir Lisboa’s illustrations, reinforces
the orality characteristic of the genre. In this context, deictics function as cohesive links
ensuring narrative fluency and immersion, allowing the story to shift between reality and fantasy
without losing its cultural roots; 2. Concerning enunciative anchoring, it was observed that
personal deictics, such as “I ask for attention” and “Grandmother told me”, along with imperative
verbs like “Tell a tale” and “Open the gates”, establish a direct dialogue between the narrator
and the reader. This strategy not only invites the audience to take on the role of co-author
of the narrative but also ensures its perpetuation as an act of cultural resistance, where orality
remains alive through the continuous reinscription of the story; 3. Regarding spatial and temporal
deictics, adverbs like “there” and “there”, as well as the phrase “on the banks of the Cajary”,
situate the plot in a recognizable geographic context, reinforcing the authenticity of Amazonian
imagery. These markers not only delimit the physical setting but also bring the reader
closer to regional experiences, creating a sense of proximity with the narrative universe; 4.
Collective memory emerges as a central axis through the expression “our mythology”, which
functions as an identity deixis. This linguistic construction links the narrator and audience to a
shared cultural repertoire, in which the figure of the Boto transcends individual myth to embody
ethical and social conflicts in the region, such as the relationship between humans and nature,
as well as issues of gender and power.
O problema
do gênero.
Esses
A memória
