This research is linked to the Study and Research Groups "Indigenism, Societies and Education
in the Amazon (ISSEAM) and "History, Society and Education in Brazil" (HISTEDBRUFOPA), of the Federal University of Western Pará (UFOPA). Its general objective is to
understand the development of the curricular component Physical Education organized by the
Borari ethnic group of the T.I Maró, aiming at the apprehension of the experiences developed
by the indigenous people and to produce reflections for the implementation of public policies
related to the school subject in the other indigenous schools in the municipality of SantarémPA. Regarding the methodological dimension, the research is characterized as exploratory and
descriptive, going through documentary, bibliographic and field analysis. The field research
was conducted in 2019 in the school of the Borari ethnic group of the Maró Indigenous Land,
located in the region of the Arapiuns River in the municipality of Santarém-PA. The data were
produced through the use of techniques such as: participant observation and the realization of
semi-structured interviews with the indigenous school actors (pedagogical coordination,
teachers who worked in the curricular component Physical Education and indigenous leaders)
and Content Analysis was used as a method of analysis. It was concluded that the knowledge
that deals with school Physical Education was being organized by the Borari indigenous people
from a systematization in three main categories: Games and Jokes, Traditional Body Practices
and Sports Football, teaching categories systematized in the school of the territory from the
need of school actors to present a differentiated proposal in their school, guided by what the
educational legislation provides for the Indigenous School Education modality: the elaboration
of specific learning, in which the traditional knowledge present in the reality and daily life of
the indigenous people are inserted and treated in the school institution.
